The Power of Twitter

I found myself involved in a minor Twitter tussle a couple of weeks ago. This followed an unexpected phone call from one Ronald Richards (he’s the new owner of the San Ramon Golf Club, for those who’ve been on some other planet). He called me to complain about my “censoring” the blog by not allowing him to use our forum to promote his agenda. You know, that plan of his to ruin our neighborhoods by putting up a bunch of condos on the present golf course.

Evidently, he wasn’t satisfied by our conversation–he kept insisting that I was violating his First Amendment rights by “censoring” him. Funny, coming from a lawyer.

He did some research about me, found one of my Twitter accounts and tweeted this. This is a long scroll, but worth it:

The tweet I had forwarded was from early November of last year.

Then we had a lovely Twitter exchange, along with our own Gene Bucciarelli (GB) never a good idea to tangle with two battle-tested Navy vets…

And his parting shot:

Since my mama taught me it’s not right to toy with the mentally (and ethically) challenged, I let him go.

Mr. Richards has bragged about how happy the neighbors surrounding one of his acquisitions, the Silverstone Golf Course in North Las Vegas are. One of our friends, who lives there, sent us some evidence of what a lovely project he has underway in Las Vegas. Click on the image to see more of the story. H/T to one of the local residents who sent this over to us.

If you don’t have time to read the whole series of posts and photos, this group of tweets is quite nice:

We’ll be talking about this at the next Steering Committee meeting, which we have tentatively scheduled for April 6.

    Way to go Jim/Joe 🙂
Seems he’s somewhat slimey attacking you for his right to free speech

Thanks for sharing and standing up to this deceitful bully

Thank you Joe for posting this and being so transparent. I really appreciate your effort and all the headache you went through to tweet with this guy. He is the coward not the people of San Ramon. He bought this land as a golf course and it will remain a golf course if we all stand together and fight him. Not an inch of this land should be built upon. We have a beautiful community and we will stand together to keep it the way it is. Again thank you for posting this.

Thank you for posting this Joe.

I’m not sure I would censor Mr. Richards though. Let him speak his mind even if it may not be 100% truthful.

I would not get in to a pi**ing match with him on the Internet. Negativity really does no one any good.

He’s in over his head and he knows it.

No one wants Alcosta to turn into Bollinger. I do a reverse commute sometime up Bollinger in the morning and people on the other side are waiting through at least two or three traffic light cycles just to get through the intersection of Bollinger and Alcosta. I can’t imagine spending 20 minutes in traffic just to get to 680 and then another 60 to 120 minute commute.

We need to make sure Alcosta does NOT turn in to Bollinger. I would like to hear Mr. Richards plans on how to avoid this because I do not think it is doable.

Hi Jason–I have long believed that allowing bullies and other miscreants to reveal themselves publicly is one way to combat them. In this case, however, Mr. Richards was attempting to use this forum to advance his personal agenda–to develop the property that is now the San Ramon Golf Club. I have no doubt that, as an experienced trial lawyer, he would be able to convince some people to support whatever he claimed he was planning to do. Those of us who’ve been paying attention know that the value of his words is nil, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to convince some homeowners. If he wants an online forum, let him create his own–but he’s not going to use this one to advance his despicable agenda.

    Joe,
Thanks for standing for our community.
I agree with Jason, traffic has tremendously increased and Alcosta Bvd became really congested. I take Alcosta Exit coming from 680 Southbound everyday and you now have a line of cars waiting at the light that is so long that it even creates congestion all the way back to the freeway lane itself. It takes me around 10 minutes just to get of the freeway everyday at rush hours. This area of San Ramon can’t take more housing development, that would be like living in LA traffic constantly, and I’m not even talking about school related issues…

Thank you for intoducing that douchebag bully to us Joe. He’s acting like a typical snowflake, feeling entitled and resorts to anger and name calling when he doesn’t get his way. Here’s what I think of him . #suck on this

Thank you for sharing this info and for standing up to this creep. It just proves his desparation, how sad for him.

Nicely said Joe and Gene! Well done. I think twitter is a much more appropriate place for his rants than the Stay the Course Blog. Perfection! He can’t take over anything he chooses, you have ever right to censor him on our blog. Thank you for standing up for us and again well said!

Hi Joe, I am one of those that live in Silverstone Ranch, Las Vegas, NV.(https://nextdoor.com/neighborhood/silverstoneranchnv–las-vegas–nv/),
I particularly loved your remark “Mr. Richards has bragged about how happy the neighbors surrounding one of his acquisitions, the Silverstone Golf Course,,,” There are 1526 homes here and I have never met one person that is happy with anything he or his buddies, Schlesinger & Madris, has ever done in our neighborhood.
And I applaud your efforts, Joe. It’s days like this when I actually hype social media and it’s extreme ability to bring two different neighborhoods together from miles apart.

Thank you Casey…there is no way we’re going to give up! And we’re just getting started.

  • Farrokh March 30, 2017, 9:32 am

Thanks for sharing the tweet, now we can all re-tweet Ronald in his own tone! Also I clicked on the other twitter post about Silverstone and reached a page all in Arabic! @wife has either been hacked, or . . . I don’t know.

    • Admin March 30, 2017, 10:01 am

Wow! Thanks for the heads up! I must have pasted in the wrong address somehow. Fixing it now.

Thanks for bringing the “real” Ron Richards out into the open. This is not a businessman looking for opportunity…this is a man with no integrity, which has crawled out from under a rock, using his money, to lay waste to good communities for his own profit.
The people of San Ramon will never let you ruin our community! We DO NOT WANT WHAT YOUR PEDDLING.
